Critically-acclaimed street food traders and Maltby Street Market stalwarts Waffle On are teaming up with much-loved neighbourhood coffee shop The Watch House in nearby Bermondsey Street, to launch London’s only dining experience exclusively dedicated to waffles.
Starting on Thursday 3rd September, Waffle On at The Watch House will open seven days a week from 5pm until late. This extraordinary new collaboration between the two popular Bermondsey-based businesses will allow guests to enjoy a more frequent fix of Waffle On’s signature buttermilk waffles, served alongside artisan Ozone Coffee expertly prepared by The Watch House’s talented baristas.
All freshly baked to order on cast-iron machines, Waffle On’s evening waffle menu will showcase an array of fun and imaginative savoury and sweet toppings – including its iconic Asian spiced slow-roasted shredded duck with fragrant plum sauce; irresistible Southern fried spicy buttermilk chicken with maple syrup butter; and indulgent thick Belgian chocolate sauce with fresh gooey meringue and vanilla cream.
Promising customers even more tempting reasons to return, each month will also see a new Specialwaffle added to the regular lineup – featuring sensational flavour combinations and celebrating the best seasonal produce, such as the hearty All Day Breakfast with dry cure crispy bacon and biodynamic egg; delicate Gravlax with Scottish salmon home-cured in beetroot and dill; and the boozy Winter Cherry with hot Morello cherries soaked in Kirschwasser. Whether in need of a fulfilling dinner or simply a delightful finale to a night out, Waffle On’s unique offering at The Watch House is sure to satisfy all appetites and cravings.
Since debuting at Dalston Roof Park in September 2012, Waffle On has steadily risen in prominence to become one of the most well-respected vendors on the London streetfood scene, renowned for its consistency and creativity. This new collaboration with The Watch House is the exciting next step for the independent business run by husband and wife duo Eddie and Bettina, who trade throughout the year at Maltby Street Market and have featured at major events right across the UK, ranging from Streetfeast and KERB to Secret Garden Party and Camp Bestival.
The Watch House is situated in a 19th century listed building, built to house the guards who watched over the churchyard of Saint Mary Magdalen. Prior to opening last September, the team lovingly restored and transformed their space into a luxury coffee hub that is fast becoming the ‘place to be’ for discerning coffee drinkers. From its beginning, The Watch House has proactively sought out opportunities to develop links with local food suppliers and been eager to bring the tastes and flavours from neighbouring Maltby Street Market to their customers on Bermondsey Street – this commitment to supporting fellow independent local businesses is epitomised in their new evening dining offering with Waffle On.
